Recognizing the hard work and dedication of their Board of Education,
students from throughout the District showed their appreciation during
the Oct. 15 meeting to celebrate School Board Recognition Week. Miller
Avenue School second graders took to the podium to share how to be
bucket fillers – a common act in the school that promotes spreading
kindness to others. They recited a pledge and asked the board members to
join them in making their school community full of givers. Wading River
School students thanked the board members for their dedication to the
school community. Prodell students and members of the musical club The
Quartertones serenaded everyone with a song and presented a banner. To
close out to the tribute, members of the High School’s upcoming musical
“Mamma Mia” presented a sneak-peak of the performance.
In addition, three members of the board – trustee Henry Perez, vice
president Katie Andersen and president Michael Lewis – were recognized
for receiving level two certification from the New York State School
Board’s Association. During his report, Superintendent of Schools Gerard
Poole spoke about some of the recent accolades received by the District
including AP Scholars, National Commended students, NYSSMA All-State
musicians and the high school’s distinction as a Blue Ribbon school.
