Shoreham-Wading River High School junior Julianna O’Neill was invited to meet with United States Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm on her recent visit to Brookhaven National Laboratory. Julianna presented the work on microplastics that has been a focus of the SPARK (Student Partnerships for Advanced Research and Knowledge) program at BNL for the last year. The meeting was a highlight for both Julianna as well as SPARK, showcasing the strong relationship SWR Science Research students and Science Research teacher Dana Schaefer have built with BNL, and the high-level research that SPARK students engage in each year in collaboration with their teachers and BNL scientists.
