Humanities Honors!

Five Shoreham-Wading River High School students were honored by Director of Humanities Mrs. Nicole Waldbauer at the March 12 Board of Education meeting.

Cali Krause and Elysa Corso received the Quill Award for Best Arts Review for their coverage of the 2023 Coffeehouse show. Katie Spencer earned second place honors for Best News Story for her reporting on upgrades to SWR’s campus. The students attended the Adelphi University's Press Day in February with journalism teacher Mr. Vincent Ball and Wildcat Pause adviser Ms. Sara Trenn.

Sophomore Isabelle Scherl was honored for her first-place win in the Poetry Out Loud New York State regional semifinals held at Stony Brook University. Senior Emily Scherl also placed in the top five at the regional semifinals. Isabelle was a New York State finalist and represented SWR with her recitation of “The Speakers” by Weldon Kees at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City in early March.
