Shoreham-Wading River seniors Sophia Minnion, Elizabeth Sabino and Dongkai Zhang served as student facilitators for the 2024 Long Island Regional Student Forum held at Western Suffolk BOCES on Feb. 29.

The students led discussions with groups of their peers representing over 40 school districts. The conversations were centered around issues that affect all students, including school/life balance, mental health, real-world learning, school environments and social issues/connections.

“The event was a great opportunity for these three members of SWR’s senior class to guide meaningful discussions with diverse groups of students,” Assistant Principal John Holownia said. “The students enjoyed a valuable experience and were happy to participate in person for the first time since first joining the forum in 2021.”

A summary of student ideas collected through the ThoughtExchange app will be shared with the leaders of the New York State Education Department and districts across Long Island.
