Shoreham-Wading River’s exceptional music program has been represented at various musical showcases this year – an outstanding opportunity for students to experience working with other highly talented young musicians and continue their musical development.

At the May 6 Board of Education meeting, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Mr. Alan Meinster spoke of the successful program and lauded the students and teachers for their efforts. Shoreham-Wading River High School music teacher Dennis Creighton thanked the families, his colleagues, the Board of Education and the families for their ongoing support of the program before reading the names of dozens of students selected to the Long Island String Festival and Suffolk County Music Educators’ honors ensembles.

Eighty-nine students were then named to the 2025 Shoreham-Wading River High School Scholar-Artist, Musician and Thespian award list. They were introduced by Principal Frank Pugliese. Each student had to maintain a weighted GPA of 90 or higher and contribute significantly to an extracurricular program in art, music and/or theater.

Mr. Pugliese congratulated the students and praised the High School educators for their guidance, determination and encouragement of the students and thanked the members of WHAM –Wildcats Helping the Arts and Music – for their ongoing efforts in advocating for the district’s arts and music program. Collette Grosso, president of WHAM also addressed the students with accolades for their dedication and passion to their art.
