Shoreham-Wading River High School ninth graders have learned much from their required Digital Literacy course to address state mandated computer science standards and to effectively use available digital platforms to complete academic tasks.
Mr. Robert Mancuso, who teaches the first cohort of students in this year’s freshmen class, leveraged his students’ understanding of the course content and their valuable input to take the class assignments from the screen and put a real-world lesson into place. Borrowing Dash and Dot and Sphero robots from the school’s library and Assistant Director of Technology Kassandra Nitti, the students participated in a maze coding activity in the high school main hallway. The students directed the robots to follow a path to the center of the maze. They worked together, refining the coding and improving on their programming skills while thinking logically, building confidence and encouraging one another in the goal.
