Members of the High School’s Global Awareness Club attended the recent ERASE Racism’s conference held at St. Joseph’s College. The eight students – Gianna Lapedota, Paul Loscalzo, Mika Misawa, Amanda Padrazo, J. Taylor Peperno, Shannon Reilly, Jalal Sawas and Kaylee Thomsen – accompanied by English teacher and club adviser Brenna Gilroy, learned about structural racism on Long Island and how it continues to impact local communities. The program included youth leadership development workshops, educational games, small group discussions and concluded with students using their newly polished leadership skills to create action plans for issues impacting their communities and schools.
