Prodell Middle School teachers, students and staff
collaborated to organize a number of special Veterans Day events.
Veterans were welcomed at a breakfast and led in the Pledge of
Allegiance with a special announcement for all students. Eighth graders
had the opportunity to listen to the stories and experiences of six
veterans from various branches of the military. The school’s chamber
ensemble and jazz band played musical selections and the National Junior
Honor Society collected treats to be gifted to the Rocky Point VFW.
Prodell’s advisories wrote thank you notes for veterans on
dog tag style cards. A schoolwide “Honor Wall” was created in the main
hallway where students, faculty and staff honored a family member who
served in the military. A display was created honoring the branches of
the military and was an opportunity for students to learn about the
history of the military. Advisories all learned about the significance
of the red poppy and all eighth graders were gifted with one to wear
during the recognition.
On behalf of the school district, a special thanks to all
the veterans who were honored and thanks to all students and Kim Avelin,
Alexa Bello, Christine Bradley, Corinne Fallon, Jim Finnerty, Cheryl
Hoefler, Danielle Senneca and Fred Volz for helping to make a successful
day to honor our veterans.
