With a week of activities, pledges, clothing themes, challenging puzzles
and a poster contest, Prodell Middle School students put great effort
into the annual Red Ribbon Week, a nationally observed alcohol, tobacco,
drugs and violence prevention awareness campaign.
Under the leadership of social worker Ms. Andrea Monz who
coordinates the annual event, and with help from the Student Council and
adviser Mrs. Christine Bradley, students created a PowerPoint
presentation with information on Red Ribbon Week’s history and
anti-bullying references, resiliency and choices in life, and clothing
themes for each day. Students had the opportunity to sign up for school
clubs, participated in informative and engaging assembly programs on the
dangers of tobacco and vaping headed by Dr. Andrew Clair and Ms. Nancy
Ward, an officer with the Suffolk County Police Department.
Congratulations to
grade level poster contest winners: Ms. Nicole Pletka’s sixth grade
Advisory, two winners for seventh grade: Ms. Danielle Senneca’s Advisory
and Ms. Kathleen Mellas’ Advisory and Mr. Jason Lee’s eighth grade
Advisory.
“We are grateful for all the
support throughout the school,” Ms. Monz said. “Of course, the best part
are our teachers and staff – they go above and beyond participating in
Red Ribbon Week.”
