Albert G. Prodell Middle School students had an opportunity to
understand the importance of their decisions when they took part in
grade level informational assemblies presented by the Long Island
Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence. Lauren Navarra, a licensed
social worker and LICAAD’s student assistant program coordinator,
highlighted emerging drug trends, shared the negative effects of
e-cigarettes and how they are produced and emphasized ways for students
to put healthy coping skills in place. “In addition to a good foundation
of family, friends, school, sports, hobbies and community, the
assemblies served as valuable resources in educating students about
topics that may be affecting their lives,” Principal Kevin Vann said.
“The goal is the more information they have, the healthier decisions
they will make.”
