The Shoreham-Wading River School District is pleased to recognize six SWR High School students who were selected to represent the district at the New York State School Music Association All-State Winter Conference in Rochester from Dec. 5-8.

Seniors Ray Colon and Nicolette Tingo and juniors Daniel Julian and Mika Misawa will be among the finest musicians across New York State when they participate in the prestigious event.

Ray was selected for the mixed choir as a Baritone and Nicolette was selected for the treble choir as an alto I. Junior Daniel Julian was selected for the jazz band on baritone saxophone. He was also selected as an alternate for jazz band on alto saxophone. Junior Mika Misawa was selected on violin for the string orchestra. All four students will perform at the All-State Concert in Kodak Hall at the Eastman School of Music.

Seniors Sarah Cain was selected as a soprano alternate for both choral ensembles and Arianna McMorris was selected as an alto alternate for both chorale ensembles.

Each year approximately 6,500 high school students prepare a New York State School Music Association solo in hopes of being considered for a spot in one of the All-State Honors Ensembles. The rigorous process for selecting an All-State musician includes teacher recommendations, audition scores at the NYSSMA solo evaluation festival and participation in other performing organizations.

“With pride, we congratulate all these students on this achievement,” SWR High School Music Coordinator Mr. Dennis Creighton said. “This event culminates their many hours of hard work and commitment to their craft. This is a journey that started in our elementary buildings and we are thrilled the students have earned themselves a spot in the All-State Ensembles.”
