Lauded for excellence in student performance and growth, graduation rate and progress during the 2018-19 academic year, Miller Avenue School and Shoreham-Wading River High School were each named a Recognition School by the New York State Education Department in June.

The District’s Board of Education recognized those achievements by presenting representatives of each school with a certificate from the New York State Education Department at the Sept. 10 Board meeting.

Recognition Schools are identified as being among the highest-achieving schools under the state’s Every Student Succeeds Act for high academic achievement and for student growth and/or graduation rates. Both Miller Avenue School and Shoreham-Wading River High School are among the schools named that have also met or exceeded measures of interim progress for English language arts and mathematics, lower rates of chronic absenteeism, and college, career and civic readiness.

Superintendent of Schools Gerard Poole commended the ongoing high-level commitment to educational excellence by the school community of students, educators, administrators, support staff and parents.
