Three Shoreham-Wading River High School students took part in several innovative programs over the summer that culminated with a poster session and closing ceremony for the Brookhaven National Laboratory High Research School Program on August 15.

Torre Ann Parrinello, Jalal Sawas and Wilson Schmalzle had an opportunity to showcase their ongoing research projects to their peers and BNL’s scientific community. Torre Ann and Jalal took part in the world-renowned institution’s Student Partnerships for Advanced Research and Knowledge program, which is a six-week research collaboration that complements the Shoreham-Wading River High School Science Research curriculum content taught by Dana Schaefer. Wilson’s six-week, highly competitive educational research project paired him with a BNL scientist from the Superconducting Magnet Division. The students were accompanied by Shoreham-Wading River School District’s Director of STEM Dr. Amy Meyer and Mrs. Schaefer.
