Lauded for excellence in student performance, student growth, graduation rate and progress during the last academic year, Miller Avenue School and Shoreham-Wading River High School have each been named a 2018-19 Recognition School by the New York State Education Department. Recognition Schools are identified as being among the highest-achieving schools under the state’s Every Student Succeeds Act for high academic achievement and for student growth and/or graduation rates. Both Miller Avenue School and Shoreham-Wading River High School are among the schools named that have also met or exceeded measures of interim progress for English language arts and mathematics, lower rates of chronic absenteeism, and college, career and civic readiness. “We are very proud of this honor as it highlights the ongoing high-level commitment by our entire school community of educators, administrators, support staff, parents and students for educational excellence,” Superintendent of Schools Gerard Poole said.
