Miller Avenue School music teacher Cara Brown recently introduced second graders to a music-themed, escape room game. The students have been studying Sergei Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf” and had to escape the music room by using critical thinking skills and collaborating to solve a variety of puzzles and codes needed to open four different types of locks. Puzzles involved activities such as decoding a cipher, reading a map, using a flashlight to locate a secret message and matching characters to the instruments on which the themes were played. “This music-themed breakout game was clearly engaging and fun for all students,” Dr. Amy Myer, District Director of STEM said.
