Inspiring and Recognizing Musical Excellence

Shoreham-Wading River High School inducted 18 new members into its chapter of the Tri-M Music Honor Society at a recent induction ceremony. A program of the National Association for Music Education, which focuses on creating future leaders in music education and music advocacy, SWR chapter’s goal is to inspire and recognize musical achievement in the school music department. In addition to writing a music-inspired essay, each student performed a New York State School Music Association Level 3 or higher solo for the high school music faculty. Inductees must also maintain a minimum average of 90 in music classes and an overall GPA of 80. They are also required to participate in one of the high school’s music ensembles – band, orchestra, chorus, jazz band, chamber orchestra or the Vocal Express. At the ceremony, students Brett Callagy, Grace DelSeni, Alexander Kravchenko, Margaret Panasci, Stephanie Searing, William Wells and Christopher Wygonik performed string music for the processional and recessional. Student Emma Longboat sang the “Star-Spangled Banner” and the newly-formed Tri-M Jazz Orchestra performed “New York, New York.”On behalf of the school district, congratulations to the following students for being inducted into the Shoreham-Wading River High School Tri-M Music Honor Society for the 2019-20 school year: Kaeleigh Carberry, Katie Dinowitz, Liam Flatley, Sarah Friedlander, Eric Guli, Mia Lombardi, Morgan Lynch, Gianna Mango, Gena McGivney, Grace McMillan, Ella Panasci, Yusra Rashidzada, Elle Schepis, Selene Tan, Andrew Vignola, Madeline Wilson, Abigail Wing and Blythe Wing.
