Shoreham-Wading River High School Science Research 2 students have a
real-world laboratory right outside the school’s doors where they spent
time collecting mushrooms and mosses for their work with the Barcode
Long Island project, a study of Long Island’s unique, dynamic natural
environment. They also worked to take a sediment core in the pond for
the sediment chemistry analysis project at the Brookhaven National
Laboratory’s NSLS-II to identify any heavy or trace metals that may be
present in the sediment of the pond due to the runoff from the
surrounding area.
