Students from the Middle School took their music classroom lessons to the capital of the theater world when they traveled into New York City to take part in Broadway close-up workshops and attend a production of “School of Rock.”

Accompanied by Assistant Principal Dan Ackerman and music teachers Arthur Gross, Kevin O’Brien and Fred Voz the band, orchestra and chorus students worked with a pit musician on piano and a choreographer who taught them some of the show’s dance movements and the song “Stick it to the Man.” They also had the unique opportunity to speak with the professionals about their journey to Broadway.

“The experience really recreated an authentic Broadway rehearsal for the students,” said Mr. Ackerman. “They enjoyed the show, but also learned all of the music, staging, rehearsals and hard work that go into putting on a world-class show.”
