Winning with Wind

AWARD.jpg thumbnail92183
High school students in David Driscoll’s technology class recently took the fifth annual Cradle of Aviation Kid Wind Contest by storm, taking home awards in the high school division.

The contest required students to design wind turbines that produce a significant, measurable amount of electric energy after testing several variables, including length, weight, shape, material, blade pitch, gearing and air foil design. Students formed hypotheses about their designs and recorded and graphed their results.

The high schoolers presented their findings to a panel of judges, who evaluated the submissions based on the entrants’ ability to defend their decisions on their designs.

The district extends its congratulations to the following students: John German, Patrick Lade, Ryan Ledda and Jennifer Sanchez-Cruz.
