Shoreham Wading-River High School is proud to announce Maxwell Maritato and Matthew Peraza as valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, of the Class of 2014. The two scholars have earned the highest grade point averages in their class and are deeply involved in the district.

Maxwell, who has not yet selected a college, plans to major in chemical engineering. He was recently named an All-Academic athlete for winter track and is an Academic All-County volleyball player. Maxwell was also awarded the Suffolk Zone Award from the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. He is co-president of the student government, a member of the National Honor Society, an Advanced Placement Scholar with Honor, and has played for the school’s jazz band, youth orchestra, symphony orchestra and pit orchestra.

“The Shoreham Wading-River faculty and staff are so supportive,” said Maxwell. “This is a great learning environment. Even if I had the chance, I wouldn’t change a single thing about my time here.”

Matthew, who will be attending Cornell University in the fall to study biology, is an Advanced Placement Scholar with Distinction, co-president of the student government and a member of Brainstormers. He performs in the school’s jazz band, chamber orchestra and pit orchestra.

“I’ve been very lucky, but have also worked very hard,” said Matthew. “I have great parents who have supported me in all that I do.”
