Miller Avenue School staff and students started the week with a carnival-themed Pick a Reading Partner celebration. Smiles were everywhere with teachers and staff donning red clown noses, serving as ringmasters to their classes, while others wore “Reading is a Ticket to Adventure” T-shirts. First grade teacher Ralph Jimenez encouraged young readers to kick it up a notch with their song rendition of “Take me out to the circus” to the tune of “Take me out to the ballgame,” all to inspire a love of reading in students. Principal Claudia Smith also got in on the fun by wearing the P.T. Barnum-inspired suit worn by Hugh Jackman in “The Greatest Showman.” On Monday evening, families attended a BINGO night, and Tuesday was a day that encouraged students to bring a favorite stuffed animal to school.
