Shoreham-Wading River High School Mathletes and students in AP Precalculus attended a lecture by award-winning astrophysicist Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell at the Simons Center for Geometry and Physics at Stony Brook University. The talk was titled, “You Are Made of Star Stuff” and examined which chemical elements are abundant in our human bodies and discussed how and where in the cosmos these elements were created and how they came to be in our bodies.

During the talk the students interacted with Dr. Burnell by asking and answering questions. They also enjoyed the mathematical installations in the lobby before and after the talk.
