Students at Miller Avenue and Wading River celebrated PARP Week with various activities. A camping theme with fun slogans like “We keep learning smore and smore” was happening at Miller Avenue, with morning announcements from the first grade classroom of Mr. Ralph Jimenez [http://www.swrschools.org/staff/default.aspx?school=60] that included a new campfire song each day. Campfire flame templates were sent home with students that were hung at the end of the week in the hallway bulletin board. Spirit Days included students bringing in their favorite beach towel to encourage reading either outdoors in the school’s pavilion or in a tent with a flashlight!

“The camp theme really gave students an opportunity to use their imagination while reading,” Miller Avenue teacher Aimee Schwabe said.

Wading River School’s inventive and fun activities included a community scavenger hunt, Wildcat Book Bingo created by reading teachers, mystery readers and opportunities for prizes – all while encouraging literacy.
