Nature-Inspired Writing

Shoreham-Wading River High School students took to the outdoors for some reading and writing poetry. Students in Mr. Brendan Gilley’s junior English classes analyzed and annotated three poems from Pablo Neruda, paying close attention to the way in which nature is presented throughout his works. After reading the poems, the students were tasked with acquiring insight from the nature all around them. Students practiced applying literary elements through the scenery, emulating Neruda’s style.

“The lesson provided an academic introduction to the spring season, and the opportunity for students to spend some time acknowledging the beauty of Shoreham-Wading River High School’s campus,” Mr. Gilley said.
