Three students in Shoreham-Wading River High School’s Science Research class who participate in the Brookhaven national Laboratory’s SPARK program attended the annual NSLS-II Users meeting recently. The students are asked to prepare a poster and a brief recorded presentation as well as virtually attend a live poster session to share the work they have completed at the NSLS-II through the SPARK program this year.

Students Julianna O'Neill, Katie Schaefer and Sasha Seletskaya were in attendance and Derek Blanco was featured through a video and his poster for the event. Throughout the event, the students interacted with visiting scientists from BNL and the larger scientific community associated with the NSLS-II to describe their work and their experience as high school students at BNL.

At the end of the event, Sasha was named as one of the winners of the annual poster contest for the high school division, and her work was featured at the following day’s user meeting plenary session.

“This is truly a major accolade for a high school sophomore,” science research teacher Dana Schaefer said.
