Fourteen Shoreham-Wading River High School Science Research students attended the Long Island Science Congress where they joined students from other Long Island high schools to present their year-long research projects for a panel of judges. The event was held at Walt Whitman High School

Shoreham-Wading River’s projects spanned three years of the school’s research program, with a range of project topics that included investigations of microplastics, measuring biodiversity in ant and leech populations on campus, a genetic modification of plants, examination of the chemical composition of a meteorite and aquatic sediment and a measure of the impact of endocrine disruptors on a model organism.

“The students had a wonderful experience, enjoyed interacting with their scientific peers, and engaging with the judges to share their exciting work,” science research teacher Dana Schaefer said.
