Eight Shoreham-Wading River High School Global Awareness Club members visited the Brookhaven Recycling Facility on Jan. 18 for some eye-opening facts on the region’s recycling process. Along with club adviser Ms. Brenna Gilroy, students April Haarke, Ella Larsen, Lena Leo, Ava Merced, Anja Minty, Asma Rashidzada, Ela Ryan and Alex Tumilowicz viewed a slideshow that detailed the collecting, sorting, dispensing and selling of paper, plastics, metals and more from Brookhaven and neighboring townships, including East Hampton, Islip, Smithtown and Southampton, before touring the facilities with staff members Kenny Rothwell and Zach Sicardi.

“It was thorough and impressive,” Ms. Gilroy said. “Who knew the dump would be such an awesome adventure?”
