Miller Avenue School second graders are learning about the lifecycle of a plant. Students in Mrs. Linda Burke’s class closely examined different kinds of seeds with a magnifying glass. They then dissected a lima bean to learn about the parts of a seed, including the seed coat, embryo, and food storage area (cotyledon).

During the next several weeks, Mrs. Burke’s class and Mr. Korchma and Mrs. Schwabe’s classes will grow vegetables and flowers in a hydroponic tower garden. They’ve planted red and green leaf lettuce, snap peas, basil, flowers, cucumbers and arugula. They are hoping to harvest the vegetables in December!
