The Shoreham-Wading River community was asked and they responded! Wading River School hosted the New York Blood Center’s blood drive on Nov. 8 and it was a major success.

Organized by school nurse Mrs. Anna Acker, Miller Avenue School second grade teacher Mrs. Alice Steinbrecher and the SWR PTA, 66 pints of blood were collected from local community members.

Shoreham-Wading River High School seniors Gavin Trezza and Bryan Vogel were commended for serving as role models for their peers as first-time donors. They signed up for the NYBC Red Cord Program, an opportunity for high school seniors to donate blood two times in their senior year at their high school-sponsored blood drives. They will receive a red cord to wear at their 2023 graduation ceremony.

Senior Jilianna Luck was also commended for volunteering five hours on her day off from school to help out at the blood drive.

Up next: The SWRHS Blood Drive, sponsored by the Honor Society, will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 14.
