The benefits of being bilingual or multilingual can be observed in every aspect of life, but more importantly, being recognized as a bilingual individual can be beneficial to a student’s future. The Shoreham-Wading River School District Board of Education honored six students with the Seal of Biliteracy award – a formal recognition of attaining a high proficiency in two or more languages by high school graduation.

Students Anthony Attanasio, Andrea Castillo-Manas, Liam McGuire, Maria Clara Mendes Abigael Sisler and Natalie Zahn were introduced by Mrs. Nicole Waldbauer, district director of humanities and chair of the Seal of Biliteracy Committee. Mrs. Waldbauer read a prepared statement from high school teachers and presented each student with award certificates and medallions. The students will also have a special notation in the graduation program and on their official high school transcript, as well as a special seal placed on their graduation diploma.
