Wading River School: Stewards of the Local Environment

Wading River School third graders took an informative field trip to Quogue Wildlife Refuge recently and visited the nature center, trails, gardens and greenhouse. They also learned about the important role a praying mantis plays in our ecosystem. True lovers of the environment, Wading River staff and students worked this week to place newly hatched praying mantes into small containers so our young student-scientists could bring them home. Students then released these beneficial insects into their gardens and yards, helping spread praying mantes throughout our community. Another exciting environmental opportunity for our SWR students!
