Students at Miller Avenue School met some important figures who help protect the local community when the second grade classes welcomed members of the Suffolk County Police Department for in-classroom presentations. To culminate the lessons for each class, all students met outside with a German Shepard accompanied by his canine section handlers Sgt. Kevin Krause and police officer Ryan Neems.
The students asked questions and watched as the officers led the dog in demonstrating expert skills in evidence recovery, criminal apprehension and more. They also learned about the training techniques the officers use and the intelligence, agility and sense of smell the resourceful German Shepard possesses.
