The Shoreham-Wading River Central School District’s Wading River School students took a ferry trip from Sayville for some outdoor learning opportunities. The fourth grade explorers visited the Sunken Forest on the Fire Island National Seashore, one of Fire Island’s most spectacular natural features. The rare ecological community with its maritime holly forest was a great introduction for students to embrace science lessons in a natural habitat. The students viewed dolphins in the ocean and a large buck who greeted them at their return ferry. The remainder of the fourth grade classes are scheduled to take the trip on Oct. 14.
