20 Years of Gratitude

At the March 23 Board of Education meeting, Mrs. Mary Luhrs was lauded for her two decades of service to the Shoreham-Wading River School District. Mrs. Luhrs, the executive assistant to Superintendent of Schools Mr. Gerard Poole, will retire at the end of March. She was presented with balloons, flowers, gifts and, above all, words of appreciation from Mr. Poole.

Mrs. Luhrs started her career in Shoreham-Wading River in 2001 and served with six superintendents in her tenure. She is only the second executive assistant to serve in the role in the district’s history.

Mr. Poole cited Mrs. Luhrs efficiency and organization in helping to keep the children safe and secure, families assured and community connected in all the roles she took on in the District Office. She was always eager to assist her colleagues, become involved in volunteer groups, oversee production and proofreading of correspondence, calendars, newsletters and most recently her lead role in pandemic related New York State infectious disease reporting.

“She has been a rock and an invaluable part of the School District,” Mr. Poole said to applause from the Board of Education members. Mrs. Luhrs then thanked the members of the District Office, Board of Education and all the people of the SWR School District for the role they all continue to play in the education of its students.
