Shoreham-Wading River High School orchestra students participated in a unique experience this week when they received a virtual visit from Soon Hee Newbold, an American composer, conductor, musician and actress. Before the visit over Google Meet, the students learned and rehearsed “Lion City,” one of Ms. Newbold’s compositions, in preparation for the virtual meeting.

“Ms. Newbold was able to share her experiences as a musician and composer and talk to the students about how to begin composing and arranging music and where she finds inspiration for her pieces,” music teacher Mrs. Ashley O’Connor, who arranged the visit, said. Students asked questions and conversed with the renowned musician who has traveled throughout the world and whose works have been performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and elsewhere.
