Shoreham-Wading River High School senior Matthew Sperling was sworn in at the Nov. 17 Board of Education meeting as the ex-officio student school board member for the 2020-21 school year.
Matthew will represent his peers during his service and will attend regular meetings with the elected board members where he will present a report of activities and calendar of events at the high school.
“We are proud to recognize Matthew in this leadership role,” Principal Mr. Frank Pugliese said. “Matthew is a diligent, conscientious, and highly inquisitive student who is well respected by his teachers and his peers alike. He cares deeply about his education and about leaving a positive impact on his community.”
Social studies teacher Mrs. Maria Lovasco said that he is a “role model and leads by example.” Last year, Matthew was a member of the Teacher Corps and developed character education lessons for younger students in the district.
Congratulations on this new role, Matthew!
