Miller Avenue students recently created an author celebration for both
their classmates and families. Ms. Courtney Von Bargen’s second grade
class have been diligently working on a unit of study in writing
workshop titled Narrative Writing Small Moments and are learning how to
develop their narratives and other strategies to bring their stories to
life.
“Students were taught to add to their writing pieces and I was so
impressed to see how well they unfroze characters, added ellipses, bold
words, details, voice, editing, revising and more,” Ms. Von Bargen said.
Each day during the three-day celebration, four students shared their stories with their families via Google Meets.
Ms. Von Bargen’s philosophy on education is that a parent is a child's
first teacher and home is their first learning environment. “Involving
parents in a child's education is an important part for me as an
educator,” she said.
