Cross-country and track and field coaches Mr. Paul Koretzki and Mr. Bob Szymanski were recently honored by the Board of Education for being named inductees into the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame. Former SWR student-athlete Thomas Cutinella will also be inducted posthumously. The gentlemen join a list of Suffolk County athletes, coaches, officials and journalists who will be inducted at a ceremony in May 2021.

The veteran coaches were lauded by Athletic Director Mr. Mark Passamonte, who cited their positive influence and unique coaching styles with countless students as well as their four decades of success with some of the top runners on Long Island coming through SWR’s program. Both gentlemen were presented with certificates from Board of Education President Mr. Michael Lewis and Superintendent of Schools Mr. Gerard Poole.

Thomas Cutinella, who died from an injury sustained during a school football game in 2014, left behind a lasting legacy throughout the school and community. The Thomas Cutinella Memorial Foundation, named for him, raises money for scholarships, organ donation awareness and promoting football safety. In April 2019, the football field at SWR High School was formally named The Thomas Cutinella Memorial Field and a concession stand was built and unveiled in his memory.
