STEAM is an acronym that is used to recognize the interdisciplinary nature of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics. The STEAM Departments at Shoreham-Wading River Schools include Science, Technology (including Career & Technical Education subjects: Technology Education, Business and Family & Consumer Sciences), Art and Mathematics.

Today's student is one that is preparing for a globally changing, advancing world that is more connected than ever before. The lessons they are learning are not only ones that are preparing them for the classroom, but for the workforce and future that awaits them upon graduation. STEAM-related professions are one of the most rapidly growing fields in our nation and world - and our teachers are working to make sure that our students are well prepared to be tomorrow's leaders.

The philosophy behind our STEAM programs focuses on providing our students with meaningful experiences that allow them to construct their knowledge of their world and use their skills to think critically and solve problems. The skills that they are learning aim to provide them with opportunities to view the interconnected nature of our world and engage in challenges that sharpen those skills. The experiences that students are having in our schools are sure to springboard their successes in any career imaginable and even jobs in fields that have not yet been developed.
Each year, in May we celebrate our successes in STEAM with our Annual STEAM Symposium.

Please consider joining us for our 5th Annual STEAM Symposium on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 from 5pm - 8pm in the HS Gymnasium.
