World Languages

At Shoreham-Wading River School District, our world languages program is designed to open doors to new cultures and perspectives, enriching students’ educational experiences and preparing them for a globalized world.  Unlike other academic disciplines with grade-specific standards, The NYS Learning Standards for World Languages are structured around three proficiency ranges that correspond to the World Language Checkpoints (A, B, C). These checkpoints represent key levels of achievement students are expected to reach, typically over a period of two school years, most commonly completing their Checkpoint A experience by the end of 8th grade, Checkpoint B by the end of 10th grade, and Checkpoint C by the end of 12th grade.

Our program emphasizes the development of practical language skills and cultural understanding, fostering a lifelong appreciation for World Languages.  The District is committed to supporting students through every stage of their language learning journey, celebrating their progress and helping them achieve their full potential.
