Dear Shoreham Wading River Students and Families,
Are you looking for some fun, local family-friendly attractions to explore this coming spring break? In honor of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, The Suffolk County 250th Commemorative Planning Committee is encouraging Suffolk County’s youth to explore various landmarks, museums and other historical sites that tell the story of our nation’s fight for independence and Long Island’s role in it. To accomplish this goal, the committee authored and published the Long Island 250th Passbook (linked here). To honor our very own hometown, SWR has created an abridged Suffolk County, Town of Brookhaven & Town of Riverhead Passbook (linked here). Copies are available in the main offices or for purchase through the Wading River Historical Society. Please see the attached letter (linked here) for more information. In an effort to incentivize student/family exploration within their hometown, any Shoreham-Wading River CSD student who completes a journey through all of the sites in the abridged Suffolk County, Town of Brookhaven & Town of Riverhead Passbook will be presented with a special award. To be eligible, completed and stamped SWR abridged passbooks must be submitted to the student’s principal on or before Friday, September 25, 2026.
Enjoy exploring your town and learning about its special places and unique role in our nation’s history!
Sincerely,
Nicole Waldbauer
