Prodell Choral Director Serves as Guest Conductor

On Oct. 21, Albert G. Prodell Middle School Choral Director John Samonte had the honor of serving as guest conductor at the Newsday Marching Band Festival, leading a special performance of “America the Beautiful” featuring 13 high school marching bands from across Long Island.
The Newsday Marching Band Festival is a longstanding Long Island tradition dating back to 1963 and is held at the Mitchel Field Athletic Complex in Uniondale. The annual event celebrates the musical talent, dedication and school spirit of high school marching bands from across Nassau and Suffolk counties, providing student musicians with an opportunity to showcase their hard work and performances.
As the festival’s guest conductor, Mr. Samonte led all 13 participating high school marching bands in a combined rendition of “America the Beautiful” during the event’s traditional grand finale. The performance united student musicians from different school districts in a shared musical experience, creating a memorable conclusion to the evening’s festivities.
This special opportunity highlighted the power of music to bring communities together while celebrating the talent, collaboration and strong tradition of music education throughout Long Island.
