Congratulations, Class of 2026!

Cheers from family and friends filled the air as the Shoreham-Wading River High School Class of 2026 celebrated its commencement, marking the culmination of years of hard work, perseverance and unforgettable memories. The ceremony began with the traditional processional to Pomp and Circumstance, as graduates made their way to their seats.
High School Principal Frank Pugliese led the Pledge of Allegiance and graduating seniors provided American Sign Language interpretation, followed by a beautiful rendition of the national anthem by senior Natalee Cortina, also accompanied by ASL interpretation from members of the graduating class.
Mr. Pugliese welcomed graduates and guests before Assistant Principals Jonathan Lilla and Daniel Ackerman offered opening remarks, thanking the many individuals who supported the Class of 2026 throughout their educational journey.
Salutatorian Ray Hidaka reflected on his years in the Shoreham-Wading River School District, expressing gratitude to those who helped shape his experience while sharing the lessons he learned during his four years of high school.
Senior Isabelle Scherl then recited a poem, “Lasting Goodbyes,” capturing the emotions of closing one chapter while looking ahead to the future. The ceremony also featured a heartfelt musical performance as graduating senior Lila Grasso sang “Landslide,” accompanied by fellow seniors Logan Jung and Reilly Kenneally.
During the ceremony, the district proudly recognized two graduates who have committed to serving the nation through military service. Shane Hall will attend the United States Merchant Marine Academy, while Ava Volz will join the United States Navy.
Valedictorian Olivia Pesso then addressed her classmates with words of encouragement and farewell, congratulating the Class of 2026 on reaching this milestone and encouraging them to embrace the opportunities that lie ahead.
Superintendent of Schools Gerard Poole congratulated the graduates and their families, highlighting the many accomplishments, achievements and contributions of the Class of 2026 throughout their time at Shoreham-Wading River.
In his address, Mr. Pugliese recognized the school's exceptional academic seniors, who earned a weighted cumulative average of 95 or higher through the second marking period of their senior year. He also reflected on the meaningful friendships, relationships and connections the graduates built during their time in the district, reminding them that those bonds will remain long after graduation.
Members of the board of education then presented diplomas as each graduate crossed the stage, officially becoming members of the Shoreham-Wading River High School Class of 2026.
To conclude the ceremony, valedictorian Olivia Pesso and salutatorian Ray Hidaka returned to the stage to lead their classmates in the traditional turning of the tassels, marking their official transition from students to graduates. Moments later, caps flew to the sky as the Class of 2026 celebrated the beginning of an exciting new chapter.
