Honoring Flag Day with History, Music & Patriotism

Ahead of Flag Day and as part of our celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, Wading River School was honored to welcome Ann Otten to the building. Mrs. Otten is a direct descendant of a Revolutionary War patriot and a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She shared the rich history of the American flag along with direct connections to members of our community with students and generously donated two books for Wading River School to enjoy.
The Wading River School fifth grade band, under the direction of Mrs. Meli, then performed songs in celebration of Flag Day, and the entire school joined together in song with music teacher Ms. Nettuno conducting. In a truly special moment, and with the help of Girl Scouts, the school unveiled an American flag that was flown at Mount Vernon, the home of George Washington. It was a memorable morning of music, history and patriotism, and a wonderful reminder of the spirit that connects the Wildcat community to the story of our nation.
