Miller Avenue Students Honor Veterans During Annual Breakfast

Miller Avenue School students honored veterans and active military during the school’s third annual Veterans Day Breakfast. This special morning, held on Nov. 10 in the school cafeteria, was an opportunity for students to honor the courage, commitment and willingness of the men and women who answered the call to defend their country.
Students were encouraged to invite a military family member for a breakfast sponsored by the PTO. Members of the student council handed out poppies to each of the guests as they entered the decorated space. On the tables were cards and patriotic artwork for the guests to take home. Additionally, students in Alice Steinbrecher’s second grade class entertained the room with a Veterans Day song.
Principal Claudia Smith also welcomed the military guests and thanked them for their service on behalf of the school and the Shoreham-Wading River Central School District. “We are safe and secure knowing that you are here to protect our country,” Mrs. Smith said.
The guests then gathered for a parade around the school, alongside their families, as students and faculty lined the hallways with banners and much deserved cheers.
