PROFESSIONAL OR BUSINESS EXPERIENCE FOR THE LAST FIVE YEARS:
Brookhaven National Laboratory – works in a research program with a goal of developing new anti-viral drugs. Science today has become the investigation of ideas in the most cost-effective manner.

ENUMERATION OF SPECIFIC PRIORITIES IF ELECTED:

• I seek a position on the Board of Education to continue to offer a balanced, levelheaded voice in representing the people of the district. I will strive to provide steady educational improvement, especially by investigating programs to enhance our capabilities in science, technology, engineering, and math. I will do this by helping to advise the administration in its goals of strengthening our well-rounded curriculum while continuing to offer a diverse range of student activities.

• I will work tirelessly to improve the SWR school district’s financial condition as we go forward into these challenging times as we debate how to fund public education.

• I will work to ensure the district continues to upgrade its technology in an economical but timely way to give our teachers and students the best tools to make this district one of the best in the country.

• SWR has been a leader in providing a cost-effective, rigorous instructional program, and we now need to make some hard choices if we are to continue this approach into the future. Districts all around us are now making cuts we have made in the past, while we are at a crossroads. About all that is left in the budget are those things that have direct impact on the education of our children. We must pursue every avenue in ensuring we can maintain as much as possible without putting too large a burden on our community.

CONTRIBUTIONS CANDIDATE CAN MAKE TO THE SCHOOL DISTRICT:

• As a scientist, I would like to see the district take maximum advantage of the wealth of scientific knowledge that abounds in our area

• I will continue to advocate for the judicious improvement of our aging infrastructure. Continued support of plans to improve our buildings and grounds to ensure a safe and healthy learning environment for our staff and students is, I think, a critical piece of protecting our district’s future.

• The best contribution I can make to this district is to be a good listener, making sure that all sides of a discussion are heard and treated respectfully, and that levelheaded agreements are reached that serve in the best interest of the district’s goals.
