Shoreham-Wading River High School’s Criminal Justice class finished off the semester with a demonstration from Suffolk County Police Department’s K9 Unit Police Officers Ralph Demasi and Mark Sacco along with K9 Valor. The students and teacher Ruth Squillace viewed the dog in action with the two officers outside the school building on June 12.

Shoreham-Wading River High School Principal Frank Pugliese honored 18 seniors who completed Career and Training courses at BOCES at the June 10 Board of Education meeting.

The students were congratulated for completing a one- or two-year rigorous course of study earning each of them an industry standard credential within their given field. Mr. Pugliese applauded them for successfully attending BOCES classes in addition to their SWR course work.

Shoreham-Wading River High School seniors Katelyn Roberts, Jocelyn Nastasi and Nicholas Dean joined SWR Board of Education President Mr. Thomas Sheridan and Superintendent of Schools Mr. Gerard Poole to be honored for their efforts throughout the year serving as student ex-officio Board of Education members.

Mr. Sheridan thanked the trio for sharing in the responsibilities of being a student Board member and the important input they provided at each meeting.

The Shoreham-Wading River School District is proud to recognize these students in this leadership role. They are considerate and highly inquisitive students who care about their high school education and about leaving a positive impact on their school community.

Senior Chase VanHouten Honored

Congratulations to Shoreham-Wading River High School senior Chase VanHouten who will attend Universal Technical Institute in the fall.

Chase, an avid Legend race car driver, is excited to solidify a career for himself in the automotive industry. His goal is to work with a NASCAR pit crew and continue racing.

Chase is a student in the HB Ward Technical Center’s Automotive Technology Program. He was honored on SkillsUSA National Signing Day, an opportunity to honor seniors in career and technical education programs who are entering the skilled trades or who are pursuing secondary education to continue training in their fields of choice.
