Dear Parents, Guardians, Students and Community Members:
The month of February is traditionally a sign of new beginnings. Academically, it is when our school begins the second and final semester of the school year. While it is hard to believe that the 2009-10 school year is half way completed, it is important for our students to realize that it is a significant time for them to reflect on their accomplishments during the first two quarters and continue to strive towards excellence.
Your child’s second quarter grades are scheduled to be mailed on Friday, February 5th. Parents are encouraged to attend our Parent/Teacher Conference on Wednesday, February 10th to discuss specific concerns regarding your child’s progress. It is my hope that we will continue to work together to provide our children with the support they need to be successful.
During the week of March 15, we have scheduled Officer Paul Failla to present a series of lectures to our sophomore students on the primary elements and importance of character education. These presentations will be conducted in small groups to allow for a more personalized setting. The goal of this program is to provide our students with an understanding of how the decisions they make shape their character.
The high school PTSA meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 3 at 7:00 p.m. Our BOCES Substance Abuse Counselor, Ms. Bittner will be giving a presentation on Suffolk County’s Social Host Law.
As mentioned above, our evening conferences will be on Wednesday, the 10th. Teachers will be available from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Throughout the evening; our music department will be hosting a cabaret style performance in our cafeteria. Please contact the high school music department by calling 821-8169 for further details.
Some additional dates to remember aside from those mentioned already within this letter are:
January 25-29: Mid-Term Testing Week
February 15-19: Mid-Winter Break
March 3: Winter Concert, 7:30 p.m.
March 8: Spring Sports Begin
I look forward to seeing many of you on the 3rd and 10th.
Sincerely,
Dan Holtzman
Principal
