General Information

Music Program: Students are graded for performance music classes (Band, Orchestra, Chorus), and are granted units of study to meet New York State requirements. Attendance is mandatory.

After School Events: Students who wish to attend an afternoon sports game or event must go home at dismissal and return with an adult at the time of the event.

Entering Building After School Hours: Students should not stay after school unless they are participating in an adult-supervised program, such as sports or clubs. Students returning to school after 2:30 p.m. to go to their locker must be escorted into the building by a parent or guardian. Please bring all belonging with you to any after school activities.

Attendance: Unless the school has received a note or phone call, parents will be contacted to provide a reason for the absence. Homework is not provided for unexcused absences. Teachers will help students find a homework buddy for assistance during short-term absences. Advisors will collect work for extended excused absences as soon as possible.

Electronic Devices: Portable music players, electronic games, and cellular phones are not to be used during school hours. These are a distraction to the learning process, and the school cannot be responsible for their safekeeping. Suffolk County law bans laser pointers from school. If items are misused, they will be confiscated and returned to parents.

Breakfast: The Madrid Exchange sells breakfast items daily in room 409.

Lunch Food: The PTO sells pizza on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Chicken nuggets and other snack items are sold on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Extra-curricular Eligibility: Students who are failing one subject will be placed on probation; those who fail two subjects are ineligible for participation in extra-curricular activities until performance improves.
