Collaboration Is Key in Miller Avenue Makerspace

Second graders in Miller Avenue School have been working with librarian Brittany LaValle on creating some ordinary designs and renowned landmarks and buildings with Keva Planks. Each student’s imagination guided them as they built spiral staircases, a model of London’s Elizabeth Tower, a hospital, the White House, the Empire State Building, a bridge, circular structures and others by stacking each piece, which are all the same size and shape.

The students in Mr. Robert Korchma’s and Mrs. Aimee Schwabe's classes recently discovered the joys of creating original works of art, igniting their creative spark with cleverly designed structures while working as a team. The activity required students to plan, collaborate and tap into their engineering skills, resulting in a mix of learning and fun.
